SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The City of Dinuba, Calif., has teamed with Tioga Energy and Chevron Energy Solutions to develop a 1.15 MW solar electric system that will reduce energy costs for operations at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
“The City of Dinuba had a noteworthy vision to transform an otherwise unusable site into a clean energy-generating asset for the community”
Comprising 4,704 photovoltaic modules, the ground-mounted system will sit atop a capped landfill near Dinuba’s wastewater treatment facility, which is the city’s largest energy-using facility. Tioga Energy, a leading provider of renewable energy services to commercial, government and non-profit institutions, will finance, manage and own the project through its SurePath™ Solar power purchase agreement (PPA), selling the generated electricity back to the city at predictable rates over a period of 20 years. Chevron Energy Solutions is providing design, engineering and construction services for the installation.
“The City of Dinuba had a noteworthy vision to transform an otherwise unusable site into a clean energy-generating asset for the community,” said Jim Davis, president of Chevron Energy Solutions. “When the project experienced some financing roadblocks, Tioga Energy stepped in to help the city complete the project. Working together, Chevron Energy Solutions and Tioga Energy are proud to provide the residents of Dinuba with a new solar energy landmark.”
“The Chevron Energy Solutions team was relentless in its commitment to seeing this project to completion, with Tioga Energy ultimately providing the necessary financial means,” said Ed Todd, city manager for the City of Dinuba. “We are grateful to both companies for their dedication in enabling the City of Dinuba to realize the benefits of solar energy without compromising our budget.”
This project marks the second collaboration between Tioga Energy and Chevron Energy Solutions. Earlier this year, the organizations partnered to develop the largest solar parking canopy in Hawaii.
“Tioga’s deep experience in financing municipal solar projects across the country equipped us with the knowledge to help clear a major financing hurdle and get this project in the ground,” said Paul Detering, CEO of Tioga Energy. “The City of Dinuba is now a prime example of how, with the right tools in place, governmental organizations can make solar work in any economic environment.”
The City of Dinuba’s solar installation is scheduled for completion in Q4 2011.
